Shusterman sworn in for first term as state representative
HARRISBURG, Jan. 1 – State Rep. Melissa Shusterman was sworn into office today for her first term as state representative of the 157th Legislative District during a Capitol ceremony for The Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
As a legislator, Shusterman said that she will prioritize bringing transparency to the role of representative, addressing Pennsylvania’s infrastructure deficiencies, investing in public schools and reaching across the aisle to end partisan gridlock, as well as strengthening protections for the environment.
Her efforts blend with the broader Plan for PA, which seeks to build a stronger economy for working families instead of serving special interests.
“It’s time to get to work; it’s time for ordinary citizens to have a voice in their government,” said Shusterman, D-Chester/Montgomery. “I’m excited to use the same skills that made me successful in business to proactively advocate for reforms in the legislature that prioritize common sense over politics.”
Prior to being elected to the state House, Shusterman launched a digital video company and raised her son as a single mother. Since then, Shusterman has successfully grown her business, working with organizations across Pennsylvania and the country, while residing in Schuylkill Township with her husband, Hans, and son, Paris.
“As a fourth-generation area resident, I am honored to represent the people of Montgomery and Chester counties in the legislature. Thank you to my constituents for entrusting me to be their advocate in the state House,” she said.
During her term, Shusterman will run two district offices. The first located on 42 E Lancaster Ave. in Paoli, PA, and the second on 1501 Egypt Road, Phoenixville/Oaks, PA.
Shusterman’s Chester County Office (42 E Lancaster Ave.) is currently open and welcoming constituents between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additionally, extended hours will be held at the Chester County Office each Wednesday until 8 p.m., as well as the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon. Shusterman invites all to a District Office Open House at this location on Jan. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Shusterman’s Montgomery County Office (1501 Egypt Rd) will open on Jan. 14 – residents may recognize this location as the site of the former train station – and will serve visitors each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., as well as the third Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. until noon. Guests are welcome to join Shusterman for this office’s official opening date, Jan. 14, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
