Sample and Methodology detail

Pennsylvania voters approve 54 – 33 percent of the job Gov. Tom Wolf is doing, his highest score since he was elected, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

This is Gov. Wolf’s first positive approval rating since a 45 – 39 percent score in an August 25, 2015, survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University.

Approval is 59 – 28 percent among women and 49 – 39 percent among men. White voters approve 53 – 35 percent and non-white voters approve 64 – 25 percent. Approval is 84 – 7 percent among Democrats and 50 – 37 percent among independent voters. Republicans disapprove 63 – 23 percent.

White voters with a college degree approve of Wolf 62 – 26 percent. Among white voters without a degree, 45 percent approve and 42 percent disapprove.

Pennsylvania voters approve 48 – 34 percent of the job Sen. Robert Casey Jr. is doing. Sen. Pat Toomey gets a mixed score as 37 percent approve and 41 percent disapprove.

A total of 66 percent of Pennsylvania voters are “very satisfied” or “somewhat satisfied” with the way things are going in the Keystone State today, the highest level of satisfaction since a 66 percent mark in an April 10, 2003, Quinnipiac University poll.

“Pennsylvanians are feeling good about their state and its economy and that seems to be helping Gov. Tom Wolf’s job approval rating,” said Mary Snow, polling analyst for the Quinnipiac University Poll.

“There’s a political divide, though, when it comes to Pennsylvania’s two U.S. Senators. Democrat Robert Casey Jr.’s job approval rating sits just below 50 percent while Republican Pat Toomey fell below 40 percent, marking his lowest score since being elected.”

Removing the current health care system in the U.S. and replacing it with a single payer system, in which the federal government expands Medicare to cover medical expenses of every citizen is a “good idea,” 43 percent of Pennsylvania voters say, while 47 percent say it’s a “bad idea.”

Democrats say 64 – 24 percent that so-called “Medicare for All” is a “good idea,” with Republicans saying “bad idea” 76 – 17 percent. Independent voters are divided as 44 percent say it’s a “good idea” and 47 percent say it’s a “bad idea.”

But 58 percent of Pennsylvania voters say it’s a “good idea” to keep the current health care system, while allowing all adults to buy into Medicare. Another 26 percent say this Medicare opt-in is a “bad idea.”

Saying that Medicare opt-in is a good idea are Republicans, 48 – 36 percent, Democrats, 67 – 18 percent, and independent voters, 60 – 26 percent. In fact, every listed party, gender, education, age and racial group says Medicare opt-in is a “good idea.”

“On the divisive issue of healthcare, voters across the board in Pennsylvania do agree on something. They would like the option of buying into Medicare,” Snow said.

Impeachment

Congress should not investigate to determine whether or not to bring impeachment charges against President Donald Trump, Pennsylvania voters say 55 – 41 percent.

From May 9 – 14, Quinnipiac University surveyed 978 Pennsylvania voters with a margin of error of +/- 4.2 percentage points, including the design effect.

The Quinnipiac University Poll, directed by Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D., conducts gold standard surveys using random digit dialing with live interviewers calling landlines and cell phones.
